Neuroscience experts advocate for proactive brain health and social engagement
Experts in neuroscience and leadership are emphasizing the importance of proactive brain health and social interaction to maintain cognitive function and combat neurodegenerative diseases.
Neurobiologist Mara Dierssen, president of the Spanish Brain Council, advocates for training brain health to delay the onset of conditions such as Alzheimer's. She notes that while biomarkers can now predict the disease up to 20 years in advance, many effective treatments remain expensive and are not yet widely available in public healthcare systems. Dierssen suggests that a continuous desire to learn is a vital tool for cognitive maintenance.
Complementing this, neuroscience expert Gladys Kali introduces a model of ‘five social brains’ or neurosocial capacities. This framework suggests that human success and brain development are deeply influenced by one's social ecosystem. According to Kali, constant interaction, observation, and adaptation to others help reshape the mind and influence decision-making and personal growth.
