Neuroscientist Aleš Stuchlík discusses brain plasticity and health

Neuroscientist Aleš Stuchlík from the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic discusses the complexities of brain function and plasticity. He notes that while the brain accounts for only two percent of body mass, it consumes up to twenty percent of the body's total energy, which can lead to mental fatigue.

Stuchlík addresses the common myth that humans only use ten percent of their brain capacity, explaining that while capacity is difficult to define, different parts of the brain are engaged throughout the day during various activities. He emphasizes that the brain is highly plastic, constantly restructuring and rewiring itself in response to life experiences.

To maintain optimal brain health, Stuchlík identifies three essential pillars: mental activity to train the brain, physical activity to increase neuroplasticity, and sufficient sleep. A balanced diet is also recommended for proper functioning.
