Neusiedler See materials used for 3D-printed construction research
A research collaboration involving Seemanagement Burgenland, Forschung Burgenland, TU Graz, and Ceramico Burgenland is investigating the sustainable reuse of materials from Lake Neusiedler See. The project aims to transform reed and lake sediments, which are typically treated as waste during maintenance, into valuable regional resources for construction.
A key focus of the study is the application of 3D printing technology to create new building materials from lake sediments. Researchers at the TU Graz Institute for Architecture and Media are testing various material mixtures, including combinations of sediment and reed fibers, to evaluate their drying behavior, shrinkage, crack formation, stability, and surface quality.
