Neustadt court mediates COVID-19 aid repayment settlement
In a legal dispute regarding COVID-19 emergency aid in Rhineland-Palatinate, several business owners have reached a settlement to repay funds through installments rather than lump-sum payments.
The administrative court in Neustadt an der Weinstraße mediated an agreement between the Investitions- und Strukturbank and three claimants: a hairdresser, a coffee house operator, and a manager of a carpet cleaning business. The bank had demanded full repayment of amounts totaling 9,000 and 15,000 euros after determining that the recipients' revenues had exceeded their expenditures in 2020.
The business owners had contested the claims, citing the risk of insolvency or layoffs. The court suggested the installment plan to account for the current economic situation of the companies. Currently, 32 similar lawsuits are pending in Neustadt, and officials expect more cases to follow regarding the repayment of other COVID-19 bridging aids.
