Neustart to Cut Probation Services After €8 Million Funding Shortfall
The Austrian probation assistance association Neustart will have to reduce its services after the Justice Ministry announced budget cuts that will leave the organization €8 million short over the next two years. Director Dina Nachbaur described the loss as “a harsh cut” and said the funding gap forces Neustart to lower the number of clients it can support from about 12,600 to 11,500.
The cuts also mean that innovative programmes such as “Dialog statt Hass” and the specialised “sicher.net § 207a” project for youth at risk will likely be suspended, as the association can no longer finance these initiatives beyond its core legal mandate.
