Neuwied and Schweinfurt launch summer book giveaways for schoolchildren
The city of Neuwied in Rhineland‑Palatinate will run a school‑book loan program for all children attending its municipal primary schools. From Wednesday, 5 August to Tuesday, 11 August families can collect the ordered textbooks at the Amalie‑Raiffeisen‑Saal of the Neuwied adult‑education centre. Pickup times are staggered by school, with additional slots on 10‑11 August for those unable to attend the earlier dates. Collections are limited to parents or guardians, though a written power of attorney allows an adult to collect on their behalf.
In Schweinfurt, the local food‑bank charity Tafel Schweinfurt is distributing age‑appropriate books and craft‑material kits for the fifth consecutive summer‑holiday campaign. The initiative, aimed at children from low‑income families, seeks to foster reading enjoyment and creative activity during the six‑week break. "Reading opens new worlds for children and builds essential foundations for their future," said Ernst Gehling, board member of Tafel Schweinfurt. The donations are made possible by community contributions and volunteers.
