German municipalities invest in new and modernized playgrounds

Various German municipalities are investing in new and modernized playground facilities, often utilizing community participation to guide design.

In Neuwied, the city invested approximately 300,000 euros in a 2,500-square-meter facility on Paul-Dahm-Straße. The project included children in the planning process to align with the city’s goal of being a ‘child-friendly municipality.’ The site features trampolines, basketball courts, and sand play areas.

In Augsburg-Haunstetten, the Fröbel primary school inaugurated a new climbing pyramid. While initial funding was provided by Catholic and Protestant school funds, the Arbeitskreis Fröbelschule e. V. covered more than half of the total costs to bridge a financing gap.

Additionally, the city of Herten has modernized two playgrounds at Schürmannswiese and Rohrkamp. These updates followed ‘playground consultation hours’ where parents, residents, and children shared their ideas, resulting in the installation of new equipment and communication elements like a speaking tube.
