Neuwied to host historical and volcanic guided tours
The Tourist-Information Neuwied is organizing two distinct guided tours on Sunday, September 6, to explore the region's history and natural landscape.
One tour is a seven-kilometer hike titled ‘Ein heißes Erlebnis: Vulkanismus!’, which begins at 2:00 PM near Hüllenberg. The walk follows the Rheinhöhenweg and Rheinsteig toward the heights of Leutesdorf, highlighting how volcanic activity shaped the area, including the historical importance of volcanic pumice stone production.
A second tour offers a classic city walk starting at 2:00 PM in front of the Neuwied Castle. This approximately 90-minute tour focuses on the history of the ‘Deichstadt,’ visiting landmarks such as the Princely Castle, the historic town hall, and former industrial sites like breweries and an oven factory.
