Nevada Athletic Commission investigates UFC 329 fighters over cage celebration rules

The Nevada State Athletic Commission is scheduled to hold hearings regarding potential penalties for UFC fighters Max Holloway, Paddy Pimblett, and Gable Steveson following their performances at UFC 329 in Las Vegas. The fighters are under investigation for allegedly violating rules against climbing or leaving the cage during their post-fight celebrations.

If found in violation, the commission may withhold portions of the athletes' fight purses or issue fines. Paddy Pimblett, who secured a first-round submission against Benoit Saint Denis, has already had his purse withheld pending the outcome. Max Holloway and Gable Steveson are also facing similar scrutiny for their actions after their respective victories.

Former fighters and analysts Daniel Cormier and Michael Bisping have publicly criticized the regulation. Cormier described the rule as “the most ridiculous rule in mixed martial arts,” arguing that fighters often experience uncontrollable euphoria after significant wins. Bisping also labeled the rule “nonsense,” comparing it to boxing where fighters frequently jump on ropes without facing similar financial penalties.
