Nevada Governor Lombardo promotes school choice initiatives
Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo, joined by former Virginia Governors Glenn Youngkin and Jim Gilmore, is advocating for educational freedom and the upcoming rollout of the federal §25F Tax Credit Scholarship Program in Las Vegas.
Scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027, the program allows individual taxpayers to claim a dollar-for-dollar non-refundable federal tax credit of up to $1,700 annually. These funds are directed to state-certified Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs), which then provide grants to K-12 students for private school tuition, tutoring, and specialized therapies for students with disabilities.
Lombardo highlighted his administration's efforts to secure over $2 billion in additional school funding and expand access to Opportunity Scholarships. He noted that since 2022, statewide early literacy rates have increased by 5%, while chronic absenteeism and the number of low-rated schools have declined.
