Nevada officials find zero noncitizen voters after DHS claim
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) investigation into Nevada’s voter rolls, which initially claimed that 15,903 noncitizens were registered to vote, has resulted in a finding of zero noncitizen voters.
Following an inquiry by Nevada election officials, the DHS estimate was first reduced to 185 individuals. However, Nevada Deputy Attorney General Greg D. Ott informed DHS officials that state records indicate those 185 individuals are also U.S. citizens. Ott stated that the department has provided “nothing of substance to suggest otherwise.”
Nevada Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar criticized the DHS for making unsupported claims, stating that the department has failed to provide evidence to substantiate its allegations. Aguilar characterized the actions as attempts to “intimidate election officials into compliance and deter voters with huge claims of fraud with no evidence.”
