Nevada voters consider abortion rights constitutional amendment

Nevada voters are deciding on Question 6, a ballot measure that seeks to enshrine an individual’s fundamental right to abortion into the state constitution. The amendment would protect abortion access performed by qualified healthcare professionals until fetal viability, or whenever necessary to protect the health or life of the pregnant individual.

Supporters argue the measure will reinforce existing laws and protect against future restrictions. Opponents have raised concerns regarding inconsistencies between current state law and the proposed amendment, specifically regarding the definition of fetal viability.

While voters previously approved the measure in 2024 with 64.4% of the vote, Nevada law requires constitutional amendments to pass in two consecutive elections. If successful, the amendment could render certain current laws unconstitutional, though the exact financial impact on taxpayers remains unknown.
