Nevşehir establishes first canoe team for Kızılırmak River

Nevşehir has established its first official canoe team to promote water sports on the Kızılırmak River. Led by the Nevşehir Provincial Representative of the Turkish Canoe Federation, Muhammed Özen, the initiative aims to transform the river from a natural landmark viewed from a distance into an active hub for aquatic activities.

Efforts have focused on overcoming local hesitation regarding the river due to past safety concerns and currents. Training programs emphasize strict safety protocols, including the mandatory use of life jackets, to build confidence among participants. The program has seen growing interest, particularly from local youth and families.

The new team is scheduled to compete on behalf of Nevşehir in the Dragon Boat Race, which will take place at İncesu Marina on September 12-13.
