Turkey's 'Her Gebeye Bir Ebe' program reaches 1,320 pregnant women in Nevşehir and launches pilot in Gaziantep

In Nevşehir, the Ministry of Health's "Her Gebeye Bir Ebe" (One Midwife per Pregnant Woman) scheme has provided regular monitoring and education to 1,320 expectant mothers. Coordinating midwives contact women by phone, invite them to prenatal classes, and conduct 250 home visits. The program also promotes the Ministry’s "Annelik Yolculuğu" mobile app for tracking pregnancy progress and accessing health information.

In Gaziantep, the metropolitan municipality signed a protocol to implement the same initiative, linking health, education and employment. The project, coordinated with İŞKUR and the provincial health directorate, creates up to 1,000 trainee midwife positions, offers practical training for students, and aims to improve maternal‑infant health services. Mayor Fatma Şahin and Governor Kemal Çeber highlighted the model’s potential to strengthen the city’s health system and provide job security for future midwives.
