Never After Dark horror film enters theaters

The supernatural horror thriller ‘Never After Dark’, written and directed by Dave Boyle, is now playing in theaters via Magnolia Pictures and Magnet Releasing. The film follows Airi, a nomadic medium played by Moeka Hoshi, who specializes in helping restless souls transition to the afterlife. Her routine work takes a dangerous turn when she is summoned to an isolated rural estate to deal with a ghost in a private home.

Boyle aimed to subvert traditional horror tropes by utilizing well-lit, evocative scenes rather than relying solely on darkness. The narrative is designed to initially feel like a familiar genre piece before delivering a significant plot shift. The film has received critical acclaim, with Stephen King describing it as ‘Amazing and haunting’ and director Scott Derrickson calling it ‘Intelligent, unpredictable, and bone-chilling.’

The ensemble cast includes Kento Kaku, Kurumi Inagaki, Mutsuo Yoshioka, Bokuzo Masana, and Tae Kimura. The film previously earned recognition at festivals, including the SXSW Midnighter Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize at the Overlook Film Festival.
