NeverMore 68 festival to commemorate 1968 occupation in Prague
The fifth annual NeverMore 68 festival will take place this Friday, August 21, at Výstaviště Praha. The event serves as a major civic commemoration of the 1968 occupation of Czechoslovakia by Warsaw Pact forces.
Under the motto ‘Stories of those who were missing,’ this year’s program focuses on the hundreds of thousands of people who went into exile following the occupation and the subsequent impact of their absence on Czechoslovak society, including culture, science, and education. The festival features debates, exhibitions, documentary screenings, and cultural programs running from 14:00 to 23:30.
Key highlights include discussions on Operation Asanace and historical reinterpretations, with participation from historians and public figures. A T-55 tank will be displayed near Pavilion B to commemorate the military intervention. The event is free to the public and supported by media partners such as Czech Radio Radiožurnál and Czech Television.
