Nevis to restore Alexander Hamilton museum with US funding

The Caribbean island of Nevis has been awarded $245,000 by the United States government to restore Hamilton House, a museum located in Charlestown. The site is believed to be the home where Alexander Hamilton, a founding father of the United States and the nation’s first treasury secretary, lived during his childhood.

The 17th-century Georgian stone building, originally constructed around 1680, has faced ongoing structural challenges due to age and salt air damage. While the building was previously destroyed by an earthquake in 1840 and last restored in 1983, the new funds will assist in preserving the historical monument.

Nevis Premier Mark Brantley expressed gratitude for the support, noting that Hamilton’s legacy serves as an inspiration for the island. The restoration coincides with the United States' 250th anniversary celebrations.
