Nevruz Latif Akpınar avoids kidney removal with robotic partial nephrectomy

Nevruz Latif Akpınar, a 42‑year‑old biology teacher from Northern Cyprus, discovered a 9 cm tumor in her right kidney during routine tests for anemia and iron deficiency. Multiple specialists advised complete removal of the kidney, but after her husband found Prof. Dr. Burak Turna online, she was referred to Acıbadem Kent Hospital in Istanbul.

On 25 June, a robotic partial nephrectomy was performed, successfully excising the tumor while preserving the kidney. Akpınar reported minimal pain, a rapid recovery and even moments when she forgot she had undergone surgery. Pathology confirmed clean margins, and no further treatment is required. She will return for follow‑up examinations every six months. The case highlights the benefits of robotic surgery for organ preservation, especially in patients with comorbidities such as diabetes or hypertension.
