New Amsterdam synthetic track nears commissioning

A new synthetic track and all-weather sports facility in New Amsterdam, Berbice, is expected to be commissioned within weeks. Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr. indicated that the project is nearing completion, though an exact opening date has not been set.

The facility features a synthetic running track and an all-weather football field equipped with an advanced underground drainage system. Designed to host regional and national competitions, the site includes spectator stands with a capacity for approximately 2,000 people, two pavilions, washrooms, and parking areas.

Regional Sports Officer Randy Mangru noted that the modern venue will allow athletes in Region Six to train during both day and night. To ensure the facility meets international standards, a specialized technical team from REGUPOL supervised the installation of the synthetic surface.
