New Balance launches heritage‑inspired 950 basketball sneaker in Japan
New Balance has introduced the 950, a high‑top sneaker that revives the look of mid‑1980s basketball shoes. The model costs ¥17,930 (tax included) and combines retro styling—such as a prominent collar and reinforced toe cap—with modern comfort technology.
The sneaker is offered in two colourways, “Angora with Silver Moss” and “Angora with Shipyard,” and is made from leather and suede with the brand’s three‑dimensional “N” logo on the upper. Sizes range from 22.5 cm to 30.0 cm. It is sold through New Balance’s official stores and online shop in Japan, and a launch campaign features contracted basketball player Cooper Flagg and his brother.
The 950 is positioned between basic trainers and premium limited‑edition collaborations, targeting sneaker collectors and consumers looking for a durable, heritage‑styled shoe that reflects the basketball culture of the 1980s.
