New Baugur Bjólfs viewing platform opens in East Iceland
A new circular viewing platform named ‘Baugur Bjólfs’ has opened in East Iceland. Located 650 meters above sea level on Mount Bjólfur, the 100-meter-long walkway offers 360-degree views of the surrounding fjord and the North Atlantic.
The structure is constructed from exposed concrete, stainless steel, and larch wood. Its design is inspired by the silver rings traditionally used as grave goods for Viking chieftains. Part of the platform extends over the abyss, providing a dramatic perspective of the landscape.
The site is situated above the coastal town of Seyðisfjörður. While the walkway is publicly accessible and barrier-free, reaching the main parking area requires traveling via a gravel road, and a 15-minute walk is required to reach the platform. Four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended for the journey.
