New book on José Gregorio Hernández to be presented at UCV

The Central Library of the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) will host the presentation of the book ‘José Gregorio Hernández: científico humanista’ on Friday, October 23. Written by professor and researcher Francis Arguinzones Lugo, the work examines the academic, scientific, and philosophical profile of the physician.

The event includes a forum featuring researchers Carlos Ortiz and María Isabel Giacopini, who will discuss Hernández’s roles as a philosopher and a promoter of bioethics. The book, published by the Editorial Fund of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Venezuela, recently received the Aníbal Nazoa 2026 Award in the Research category.

According to the book's synopsis, the text provides a terrestrial perspective on the doctor and researcher who was canonized by the Catholic Church on October 19, 2025.
