New books examine risks of AGI and superintelligence

New literature focusing on the risks and societal shifts of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) has been released in Japan.

Kodansha published ‘Intelligence Explosion: What Comes After AI, AGI, and What Happens to Humanity’ by Shota Ariji, co-representative of AGI Hub, on October 1, 2026. The book examines the current state of the AGI development race among frontier companies and explores the potential for ‘intelligence explosions’ that could bring both immense benefits and existential risks to human civilization.

Additionally, Hayakawa Publishing announced a limited-time discount on the Japanese electronic version of ‘Pausing the Race to Superintelligence’ by Eliezer Yudkowsky and Nate Soares. The book discusses extinction scenarios that could occur if superintelligent AI surpasses human capabilities, serving as a warning regarding the current AI development environment.
