New Brunswick Green Party criticizes Holt government energy policies
The New Brunswick Green Party is criticizing Premier Susan Holt’s government over perceived contradictions in energy and environmental policy. Party leader David Coon has denounced a lack of transparency regarding the province’s carbon neutrality measures, noting that while a plan was published online, the Premier simultaneously expressed openness to hydraulic fracturing during a press conference.
Coon also highlighted the cancellation of a solar panel installation assistance program, arguing that solar energy is currently a more cost-effective option than electricity provided by NB Power. Additionally, the Green Party expressed concern over government support for American companies building gas-fired power plants to supply artificial intelligence data centers, suggesting such projects export provincial wealth rather than benefiting local communities.
