New Castle officials assess damage from historic flooding

Officials in New Castle, Indiana, have begun assessing damage following historic flooding. Mayor Greg York reported that rushing water has caused significant infrastructure issues, including the total washout of a bridge on Riley Road. The washout is described as being 20 feet wide, 35 feet long, and 10 feet deep.

In addition to the bridge, flooding has washed away the infrastructure beneath another road, though the road itself has not yet collapsed. The city has commenced road repairs while simultaneously seeking financial assistance to cover the costs.

Mayor York has advised residents to remain cautious and report any new cracks or potential sinkholes to local authorities. A full assessment of the damage remains pending until floodwaters recede. Indiana 211 is currently accepting damage reports from residents in Henry County.
