New Castle shooting wounds 81-year-old woman

An 81-year-old woman was wounded early Tuesday morning after gunfire struck a residence in the Rosegate community of New Castle, Delaware. The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on the unit block of Rose Lane.

According to resident Arthur Deramus, approximately 22 rounds were fired, with roughly 16 bullets entering the home. The victim, Virginia Perkins, was struck in the hip while sleeping and was transported to a local hospital for surgery. She is reported to be in stable condition.

Investigators found extensive damage throughout the residence, including bullet holes in walls, doors, mirrors, and furniture. A bullet also struck a mattress in a grandson's room and an unoccupied vehicle parked on the street. New Castle County police are currently investigating the motive and attempting to identify those responsible for the shooting.
