New child mayors appointed in Bunschoten and Groningen municipalities

Liv Ruizendaal was chosen as the child mayor of Bunschoten (Spakenburg) after a selection of three candidates. She will represent the municipality’s children from the summer break, focusing on reducing screen time and promoting play. Mayor Jaco Geurts praised her enthusiasm and involvement.

In Groningen, Lotta was elected as the new child mayor, with Amira serving as the locokinderburgemeester. Lotta plans to launch a special newspaper to give a voice to often‑overlooked residents. The election, held in person at the Forum Groningen, concluded with emotional reactions from the winners. The child mayor role, established in 2017, now includes participation in council meetings and local events such as Festival Noorderzon and the Sinterklaas procession.
