New child mayors appointed in Nieuwegein and Rozendaal

Two Dutch municipalities, Nieuwegein and Rozendaal, have appointed new child mayors to represent youth interests.

In Nieuwegein, 10-year-old Aliya Asad has been named child mayor for the 2026/2027 school year. She intends to advocate for increased outdoor play and improved sports and exercise facilities to combat the amount of time children spend behind screens.

In Rozendaal, 10-year-old Emma de Haan has been officially installed. Her goals include fostering an inclusive environment where children feel welcome and promoting stronger connections between children, youth, and the elderly within the village.
