New culinary training centers open in Biga and Afşin
New culinary training facilities have been opened in Biga and Afşin to enhance vocational skills and support local employment in Turkey.
In Biga, the Biga Public Education Center launched a Food and Beverage Services Workshop. The facility provides practical training in areas such as cooking, pastry making, regional cuisine, service skills, and food hygiene. The program aims to support lifelong learning and provide professional development opportunities for citizens of all ages, including individuals with special education needs.
In Afşin, the ‘From Tradition to the Future Gastronomy Center Project’ was inaugurated through a collaboration between the Turkish Red Crescent Afşin Branch and the Afşin District Directorate of National Education. Located at the Şehit Dinçer Akkaya Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, the project consists of two 180-square-meter centers totaling 360 square meters. These centers feature application kitchens, an 88-person restaurant, industrial equipment, and zero-waste kitchen systems.
Developed to aid regional recovery following the February 6 earthquakes, the Afşin center targets high school students and individuals aged 18 to 40 seeking professional certification. Training will cover culinary skills alongside hygiene, food safety, marketing, digital sales, e-commerce, and entrepreneurship.
