New Delhi Municipal Council issues new employee code of conduct
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has introduced an 18-point code of conduct and a set of ‘10 commandments’ for its employees to improve transparency and public service delivery. Chairperson Manoj Kumar Dwivedi issued the directive to encourage staff to follow the spirit of ‘Nagrik Devo Bhava’ (citizen is God).
The new guidelines prohibit bribery, the intentional delay of files or payments, and the influence of personal interests on official decisions regarding tenders, contracts, and recruitment. Employees are instructed to base decisions on prescribed rules rather than political affiliations or external pressure.
Additionally, the circular mandates a citizen-friendly approach, requiring staff to handle grievances politely and guide citizens to the correct departments. The code also establishes workplace conduct rules prohibiting bullying, sexual harassment, and discrimination, while emphasizing the responsible use of municipal assets and public funds.
