New Democracy announces tax relief for Greek farmers and small villages
Maximos Charakopoulos, General Secretary of the New Democracy Parliamentary Group, has announced new tax relief measures aimed at supporting Greece's rural areas and primary sector starting in 2027.
Key measures include the elimination of ENFIA (property tax) for villages with populations of up to 2,000 residents. Additionally, farmers with an annual income of up to 20,000 euros will be exempt from income tax. These policies are intended to mitigate the impact of global economic instability, energy costs, and international conflicts on the agricultural sector.
Speaking at the Almond Festival in Sykourio, Charakopoulos highlighted arboriculture as a strategic solution to the issue of small-scale land ownership in Greek agriculture. He also noted ongoing efforts to certify Sykourio almonds as a Protected Geographical Indication to facilitate international market access.
