New Democracy could reach 37% and secure majority, says analyst

Political analyst Andreas Drymiotis suggests that current polling may be underestimating the New Democracy party. Drawing parallels to the 2023 national elections, where polls failed to capture the true scale of the party's victory, Drymiotis argues that voters often express themselves more loosely in surveys than they do at the ballot box.

He estimates that New Democracy could potentially reach 37% in upcoming elections, which could secure a parliamentary majority. Drymiotis notes that a rise to 32% or 33% would strengthen the scenario for self-governance, while a drop toward 28% would change the outlook. He also cautioned that voter abstention remains a significant factor that could impact the leading party.

Regarding the opposition, Drymiotis believes SYRIZA has been overestimated in recent polls. He also addressed the potential impact of Antonis Samaras forming a new party, suggesting that while it might cause temporary damage to New Democracy, its long-term electoral influence would likely remain minimal.
