New Democracy marks 52nd anniversary of its founding

New Democracy is celebrating its 52nd anniversary since its founding by Konstantinos Karamanlis in October 1974. The commemorative event held at the O.SY. depot in Athens featured a digital historical journey using new technologies, including VR, interactive quizzes, and an AI-generated video showcasing the party's successive leaders.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis delivered a keynote speech, emphasizing the party's role as a force for stability and change. He framed the upcoming 2027 elections as a critical milestone, stating that the party must present its vision for 'Greece 2030' and maintain public trust despite turbulent global conditions. Mitsotakis noted that the party has achieved significant electoral successes in the past and aims to repeat this by transcending traditional political divisions.

The anniversary also highlighted the party's ideological roots in 'radical liberalism' and its historical role in the transition to democracy and Greece's integration into the European family. While the event celebrated the party's continuity, it was marked by the notable absence of several former prime ministers and party leaders, including Kostas Karamanlis, Antonis Samaras, and Evangelos Meimarakis.
