New dinosaur species Paludohadros proudlovii discovered in England

Paleontologists have identified a previously unknown genus and species of iguanodontian dinosaur, named Paludohadros proudlovii, from fossils found in Surrey, England. The specimen was unearthed at the Smokejacks brickworks in 2001 and has been studied by researchers from the Natural History Museum.

The herbivorous dinosaur lived in the swampy lowlands of southern England during the Early Cretaceous period, approximately 125 million years ago. Measuring about 5 meters in length and weighing between 1.5 and 2 tonnes, the individual was likely a juvenile that would have grown to twice its size.

The name 'Paludohadros' is derived from the Latin word for 'swamp,' reflecting the muddy wetland environment the creature inhabited. The species name, 'proudlovii,' honors Will Proudlove, a former manager at the brickworks where the fossil was discovered.
