New documentaries to premiere in Chile regarding personal and social histories
Two new documentary films are set for release in Chile, focusing on personal loss and social justice.
Francisca Amigo’s short film, “Norte claro, sur oscuro,” will premiere at FIDOCS in Santiago on November 17. Filmed in Cauquenes, the documentary follows the director and her brother as they return to their family home following the death of their parents. The work uses personal diaries and family photographs to reconstruct the memory of their father and address alcoholism as a public health issue.
Additionally, the documentary “Chew Müley Tañi Chuchu?” will have simultaneous screenings in Chile and abroad, with a Valdivia premiere on November 8. Directed by Hugo Farías and Víctor Hugo Gutiérrez, the film explores the life of Julia Chuñil Catricura, a Mapuche leader who disappeared two years ago in the Los Ríos region. The film utilizes family testimonies and archival footage to document the search for justice and Chuñil’s role as a defender of indigenous territory.
