New electric and hydrogen mobility technologies emerge in Florida and Mexico

New technological developments in sustainable mobility are emerging in the United States and Mexico. In Florida, the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) has begun construction on the State Road 516, also known as the Lake/Orange Expressway. This project includes a 1.2-kilometer electrified lane designed to charge electric vehicles in motion using wireless induction technology. Developed in collaboration with the ASPIRE research center and the Norwegian company ENRX, the system uses copper coils embedded under the pavement to transfer up to 200 kW of power to vehicles equipped with appropriate receivers.

In Mexico, the Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados (Cinvestav) has introduced the Hidrobinisa, a small electric vehicle powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. Unlike traditional electric vehicles that rely on external grid charging, the Hidrobinisa generates electricity through a chemical reaction involving hydrogen. While the vehicle is limited to a top speed of 33 kilometers per hour and an autonomy of 90 to 100 minutes, it is intended for short-distance use in specific environments such as hotels, tourist sites, or farms.
