New England anchorages offer prime late-summer cruising

Late summer offers favorable conditions for boating in New England, characterized by warm water, manageable winds, and quieter harbors as the peak vacation season concludes.

Block Island, Rhode Island, serves as a primary destination for cruisers traveling between Narragansett Bay, Buzzards Bay, and Long Island Sound. The island features two notable areas for boaters: New Harbor, also known as Great Salt Pond, provides a well-protected anchorage with approximately 90 moorings and various marinas. On the eastern side, Old Harbor offers a breakwater and convenient access to local shops, restaurants, and the main ferry terminal.
