New England Aquarium supports Boston flood protection plan

The New England Aquarium has expressed support for a new flood protection plan for Boston following the release of a Draft Integrated Feasibility Report and Programmatic Environmental Assessment. The plan was developed through a Coastal Storm Risk Management Study conducted by the City of Boston and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Aquarium President and CEO Vikki N. Spruill stated that the proposed comprehensive system plan is a “necessary and wise investment in Boston’s future.” The initiative aims to protect lives and billions of dollars in public and private assets from sea level rise and future coastal flood events, such as storm surges and king tides. The Aquarium, which is vulnerable to waterfront flooding, has been advocating for coastal preparedness and a resilient, inclusive waterfront since 2019.
