New England Highway crash follows high-speed police pursuit

A high-speed police pursuit involving a stolen blue Honda CR-V ended in a violent crash on the New England Highway near Scone in the early hours of September 7. The incident began after the vehicle bypassed a roadside breath test in Muswellbrook.

Police video footage shows a 14-year-old driver traveling at speeds up to 208km/h in a 60km/h zone, swerving between lanes and driving on the wrong side of the road. During the 11-minute chase, the vehicle covered 29 kilometers at an average speed of 158km/h. Passengers in the back seat were recorded encouraging the driver to continue the pursuit.

The chase concluded when the driver attempted to overtake another vehicle, causing the Honda to leave the road, hit a fence, and flip onto its roof. Three passengers in the rear were seriously injured, with one individual being thrown from the vehicle during the impact. Two Westpac rescue helicopters were deployed to the scene.
