New England junior rugby teams compete in State Championships
Five New England rugby teams recently traveled to Mudgee to compete in the rugby sevens State Championships. The regional squads included under 11, 13, 15, 17, and a girls team.
The under 11 squad, composed of players aged nine to 11, was honored with the ‘Spirit of Rugby’ award. Despite not securing a win during their rounds, coach Ed Hiscox noted the team’s strong defensive performance against major metropolitan clubs.
In other results, the under 17 boys team secured the Bowl Plate following a second division draw. Junior rugby president Marcus Crane and coach Ed Hiscox emphasized that revitalizing junior representative rugby is essential for creating competitive pathways for regional players.
