New England Patriots sign veteran guard Greg Van Roten
The New England Patriots have signed veteran guard Greg Van Roten to a one-year contract to bolster their offensive line depth. The 36-year-old, who most recently played for the New York Giants, brings significant experience to a unit currently facing injury challenges.
Van Roten’s signing follows a leg injury to offensive lineman Ben Brown, who is expected to miss the remainder of the preseason and potentially several weeks of the regular season. The injury occurred during a preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Head coach Mike Vrabel indicated that the team may also look to test the versatility of rookie Caleb Lomu, who has primarily played tackle, by having him log repetitions at the guard position as a contingency plan. The team remains open to further outside reinforcements if the current depth is insufficient.
