New England Puppy Rescue honors pit bull River after death

River, a pit bull that spent 12 years assisting the New England Puppy Rescue, has passed away due to natural aging and a terminal diagnosis. During his time at the rescue, River helped care for approximately 500 orphaned puppies, participating in their daily routines such as running, napping, and early social interactions.

His presence was noted for helping young puppies feel secure and confident in their new environment. To honor his legacy, the institute established ‘River’s Room,’ a dedicated space where puppies stay while transitioning to their new families. The organization stated that the room serves to honor the love he initiated rather than attempting to replace him.
