New Evil Dead film “La Casa – Il rogo del Male” revives horror franchise

Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead franchise adds a new chapter titled “La Casa – Il rogo del Male”. Directed by French filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček and produced by Raimi, the film mixes the series’ trademark humor with fresh psychological horror. The story follows Alice, a widowed woman whose family members become possessed by demonic Deadites after the Book of the Dead is uncovered.

Vaniček explains that the project was designed to “do harm to the audience”, echoing the visceral style of earlier French horror works. He was approached after his award‑winning debut Vermin and brought his own script to Sam Raimi, who approved the 15‑page treatment. The film aims to explore toxic family dynamics within a conventional horror setting, continuing the franchise’s blend of gore and dark comedy.

Both articles note the film’s intent to appeal to longtime fans while introducing new thematic depth, positioning it as the most intense entry in the Evil Dead series to date.
