New film releases include animated satire Jim Queen and thriller Black Box

A new wave of film releases includes the animated satire ‘Jim Queen’, co-directed by Marco Nguyen and Nicolas Athané. The film, which took nearly eight years to complete, was funded largely through self-financing and crowdfunding after facing difficulties securing support from streaming platforms and French television networks. Nguyen noted that the project was often rejected because it was considered ‘too gay’. The story serves as a tribute to queer culture while addressing themes of intolerance.

Other notable upcoming releases include the supernatural thriller ‘Black Box: Flight 298’, directed by Steven Quale, which follows the mystery surrounding a commercial flight crash between New Orleans and Seattle. Additionally, Paolo Virzì’s ‘Cinque secondi’ explores the life of a solitary man living in a ruined mansion, and the Spanish film ‘Cronos’ by Fernando González Molina is among the new titles arriving this week.
