New film releases include Brazilian comedy and award-winning drama

The comedy film ‘Minha Melhor Amiga’, starring Mônica Martelli and Ingrid Guimarães, is set to premiere in cinemas on September 3. Distributed by Paris Filmes and directed by Susana Garcia, the film follows two lifelong friends, Julia and Clara, navigating life in their 50s. The project originated from viral social media content shared by the actresses' daughters during family trips. Filming took place in Rio de Janeiro, Lisbon, and Seville.

In European cinema, the film ‘A Amiga Silenciosa’ (The Silent Friend), directed by Ildikó Enyedi, will debut in Portuguese theaters on August 27. A co-production between Germany, Hungary, France, and China, the drama was featured in the official selection of the 2025 Venice Film Festival, where it received the FIPRESCI prize and the Marcello Mastroianni award for Best Emerging Actress (Luna Wedler). The narrative explores the connection between humans and plants across three distinct time periods: 1908, 1972, and 2020.
