Europe wildlife road trips ranked by Avis

Car rental company Avis has released a ranking of the best driving itineraries in Europe for wildlife observation. The ranking evaluates routes based on sighting reliability, proximity to airports, practicality, and online popularity via Google searches and Instagram presence.

The New Forest in southern England secured the top position with a score of 93 out of 100. Its 32 km route, which includes Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst, is noted for being one of the shortest trips, offering views of native ponies, deer, and buzzards.

Other top-rated locations include the Wadden Sea in Denmark (Route 11), which allows for sightings of migratory birds, seals, and porpoises, and the Ebro Delta in Spain. Other notable mentions in the top ten include the Camargue in France, known for pink flamingos, and the North Coast 500 in Scotland, which is highlighted for its length and opportunities to see red deer and golden eagles.
