New Friulian reference grammar launched in Udine

A new reference grammar for the Friulian language, titled ‘Gramatiche furlane di riferiment’, has been presented in Udine. The project is the result of a collaboration between scholars and researchers from 14 European universities.

Coordinated by professors Franco Finco, Luca Melchior, and Paolo Roseano, the initiative aims to provide a tool for deepening the knowledge of Friulian rules and characteristics. The project coincides with the 30th anniversary of Regional Law 15/1996, the first regulation dedicated to the protection of the Friulian language.

In an innovative move, native Friulian speakers are invited to contribute to the refinement of the grammar by submitting observations and suggestions by the end of the year. The project is supported by the Regional Agency for the Friulian Language (ARLeF) as part of the 2021-25 general linguistic policy plan.
