New Hampshire town residents oppose data center proposal
In Nottingham, New Hampshire, a proposal to convert a 200,000-square-foot idle warehouse into a data center has met significant local resistance. Entrepreneur Tom Moulton, representing Nottingham Business Park, LLC, initially approached the town planning board to gauge community concerns regarding the project.
The proposal triggered a swift backlash, including a petition with over 25,000 signatures. Moulton reported receiving hate mail and threats to his life, necessitating contact with the FBI. Due to the intense public outcry, the project was withdrawn from the planning board's agenda just hours before a scheduled meeting.
Despite the withdrawal, hundreds of residents attended a public meeting to voice opposition. Primary concerns cited by the community include potential water degradation, ecological harm, noise pollution, and increases in energy costs.
