New Japan Pro-Wrestling continued its G1 Climax 36 tournament with matches held in Tokyo and Yokohama. The tournament features 20 wrestlers competing in two blocks to determine a finalist for an IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match at Wrestle Kingdom.

In Block A, Konosuke Takeshita and Oleg Boltin lead with 10 points each, followed by Ryohei Oiwa and Shingo Takagi with 8 points. In Block B, Gabe Kidd holds a perfect score of 10 points.

The tournament faced a setback when Shota Umino was forced to withdraw from the competition due to a suspected concussion sustained during the first day. As a result, Umino forfeited his scheduled match against Gabe Kidd, granting Kidd the win by forfeit.
