New Japan Pro-Wrestling uses AI to recreate founder Antonio Inoki

During the G1 Climax 36 semifinals at Ryogoku Sumo Hall, New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) utilized artificial intelligence to present a digital recreation of its late founder, Antonio Inoki. The AI version of Inoki appeared on arena screens following an announcement regarding the Wrestle Kingdom events scheduled for 2027 and 2028.

The digital recreation, part of a project by the Inoki Genki Factory, featured Inoki’s voice and speech patterns. The AI persona delivered a message encouraging fans and urging current leadership to carry the company forward into its 55th anniversary.

The use of AI to recreate the deceased wrestling legend has sparked debate among fans. While some view the technology as a way to preserve Inoki’s legacy and spirit for future generations, others have expressed discomfort with the digital resurrection of the figure who passed away in October 2022.
